Flying the DJI Mini 2 in Rain: A First-Hand Experience

As a drone enthusiast, I was determined to put the DJI Mini 2's weather resistance to the test. The electric circuit spray is an excellent idea – I plan to get some just in case I'm flying on a suspicious day and can spray the top of the drone for extra protection. To be safe, I even placed my battery in rice overnight, just in case.

My only concern was the water that had seeped into the top battery button during its 10 previous charges. However, after using it extensively since then, I haven't noticed any issues. I was also worried about water droplets on the front lens affecting the video picture, but surprisingly, my footage didn't show a single drop.

When the rain started, I began testing the drone's limits by flying large circles around me to keep it within visual line of sight (VLOS) in case of an emergency. To my surprise, nothing out of the ordinary occurred. My device screen was completely wet and unreadable, but my Sony Z3 phone, which is splash-proof, didn't pose any concerns.

After this experience, I feel confident that if I get caught in the rain again, I can fly it home at full speed without worrying about water damage. Although I don't recommend flying in the rain, I wanted to test the DJI Mini 2's limits and report my findings. The rain wasn't heavy – just a light drizzle for most of the flight, with a few minutes of harder rain towards the end.

While it's still important to exercise caution when flying in wet conditions, my experience has shown that the DJI Mini 2 can withstand moderate rainfall without any issues. If you do find yourself caught in the rain, follow proper safety protocols and take necessary precautions to ensure your drone and surrounding environment remain safe.
